The sun shines brightly over the horizon, there is a slight breeze in the air, and the waters are tranquil as they move along the coast. A wonderful way to spend such a glorious summer day involves sailing on a boat. Instead of shelling out massive amounts of money to own a private one, it is much more economically feasible to go on a charter sailboat. There are numerous hot spots to travel the high seas on, from San Diego to the British Virgin Islands. Regardless of whether the sailing takes place in the west coast or in the Caribbean, there are numerous things to consider when deciding on a charter sailboat.

Choosing a charter sailboat does not require as much time, money, and responsibility that it takes to invest in owning one. Opting for a charter sailboat still requires decisions such as where to sail, what boat to charter, and what to pack. In order to choose a sailing location, it is necessary to consider whether the wind is good. The most dependable land and sea breezes are along coastal areas as opposed to mountain areas. It also varies according to month.

There are other important considerations when choosing a charter sailboat. They include: if the bottom of the body of water is soft or hard, if there are currents, tides, or dangers such as hidden rocks and shoals, if there is a security zone, how heavy the commercial traffic is and if there are traffic lanes. All of these qualities should play a factor in deciding where to travel on a charter sailboat.

The marina and condition of the charter sailboat are inherently significant as well. Once these things are decided on, check to make sure that certain things are in place. Before the charter sailboat even leaves the marina, check that both batteries hold a charge, the water tanks are full, there is enough fuel, enough oil is in the engine, the amount and type of cooking fuel are adequate, and that the fuel line and stove are turned off.

The amount of skill it takes to run a charter sailboat varies depending on what kind of boat is desired and where it will be sailed. Because of this, it is a good idea to make sure the consultant at the sailboat company knows what kind of skill and experience the sailer has before choosing the locale and type of sailboat. A beginner sailor might want to start off with a smaller sailboat, whereas a more experienced sailor can handle a larger charter sailboat. Once the search is done and the charter sailboat is found, it is time to pack for the actual trip.

When packing clothes, it is important to note that there is rarely any room for a hard suitcase aboard the charter sailboat. For this reason it is a smart idea to pack clothing in a large soft duffel bag. T-shirts, swim suits, shorts, and sunscreen are musts for the daytime. At night, it is a good idea to bring long sleeved shirts in case it gets cold. The ladies do not need to bring a lot of makeup, fake nails, or a hair dryer. They are superfluous on such a trip. Also, full snorkel gear is already supplied on the boat or at the base. A first aid kit is automatically on every boat, so there is one less thing to remember, too.

A charter sailboat is an unique alternative to laying out on the beach during a hot summer day. With the right planning, a sailboat vacation can bring the family from one end of the coast to the other. Renting a charter sailboat is a smart option for those who do not have the time or money to invest in a purchasing their own private charter. Whether going to the BVI in the Caribbean or taking a spin around the San Diego bay, a charter sailboat is a sure way to set this summer's vacation apart from the others.
